Sweet Salone! That’s the catch phrase the Sierra Leoneans use to describe their amazing country. ALAAPii, supported and guided by Dreamcatcher, tasked our colleague Sara Lemeire to explore the destination with our local partner Hope For African. This is all part of our commitment to assist African countries to unlock their tourism attributes. Sara honed her skills in local destination assessment, working for 4 years with Dreamcatcher South Africa founder and ALAAPii co-founder Anthea Rossouw. Inspired by the impact of the Dreamcatcher South Africa ethos and sustainability mindset, and the amazing experienced she was exposed to, Sara founded her own company called Sara Goes Local, a freelance tourism consultancy. As an expert in sustainable tourism and Dreamcatcher at heart, she was our choice for the job.

During her time in Sierra Leone the tourism development team assessed the possible destinations and the facilities that are already in place and fed this back to Dreamcatcher to guide the region. Sierra Leone has signficant potential to become one of the most beautiful coastal destinations in Western Africa. This is a work in progress, as tours are developed to underpin the core principles of sustainability. (diversity, inclusivity, social justice, environmental integrity and economic efficiency) and to work collaboratively with the local eco-system which includes the authorities to guide Sierra Leone to reach for their destiny and dreams of improve quality of life for locals and the environment.
